What if I told you that what other people think of you is none of your business? It feels impossibly backwards. What could possibly be MORE of your business than what people think of you, or are saying about you when you aren’t there?
But. Can you control what other people think? Can you possibly monitor what people say when you aren’t around? Is there anything you can do to control it? And does trying to control it drive you into depression or supercharge your anxiety?
What if you just… let it go? Tried to act in a way that you are proud of in all situations, and then accepted that you can’t control other’s perceptions of you?
Can you imagine feeling that free?
Not being worried all the time about trying to guess what is in people’s heads? Honestly, you’re not going to change it. And trying to make everyone happy only kills your own inner joy.
Let it go today. Let the only opinion you worry about be your own. Try it just for a day, and see how it feels. I’m going to go out on a limb and say it feels at least 73% as freeings as taking your bra off after a long day.
Wonderful words of wisdom and advice. I learned at the ripe old age of 14 not to fret about what other folks think of me or gossip about me. It has made every bit of difference in my happy life. Likewise I do my very best not to say disparaging think about people.
