What Makes You Pound the Table?

This group is clearly a bunch of DO GOODERS. It isn’t just anybody that pitches in and creates tens of thousands of masks out of cotton and thread, just because there is a need. In fact, Winston-Salem has 230,047 people, and only 2700 of them are in this group. So. You are in a top tier audience right now, surrounded by people who love others and are willing to put their time and money where their mouth is.

Sometimes, when you care so much, it’s hard to know how to best invest your time and resources. Pour deeply into one cause, like cream into a coffee mug, or spread widely though a group of organizations, like a schmear of cream cheese on a bagel? (side note- did I forget to eat breakfast?)

One of my best friends has an easy way to uncover what causes and needs motivate you to action. She asks “what makes you pound the table?” What idea, issue, cause, or societal need, when you are talking about it, makes your heart race? Makes your voice get louder? Your hands flail in the air while you are talking? When you follow these cues, you find the things that matter the most to you.

Sometimes, when I feel like I am doing things just to be doing them, I take a step back and ask myself again- what makes me pound the table? And are any of the sheer number of things I just volunteered to do accomplishing these goals? Or is it time to reevaluate?

So. What makes YOU pound the table? Share below, and see if you find other warriors for your cause! We already know what this group is capable of… let’s keep changing the world!
